The Future of Europe
Project Expert
About the Project
A wave of nationalist populism has spread across Europe, threatening the foundations of European integration. Britain is leaving the EU. Poland and Hungary have both embraced a populist brand of illiberalism. Far-right political parties have gained considerable influence in Austria and Germany. Through publications and roundtable meetings, I seek to better understand the roots of European populism, examine its implications for Europe and transatlantic relations, and analyze how best to redress the danger that populism poses to democratic societies and an international order based on liberal practices and values.
