Nigeria Security Tracker Weekly Update: March 11-17

Below is a visualization and description of some of the most significant incidents of political violence in Nigeria from March 11 to March 17, 2023. This update also represents violence related to Boko Haram in Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. These incidents are included in the Nigeria Security Tracker. 

• March 11: Gunmen killed a councillor in Ohaozara, Ebonyi. 
• March 11: Bandits killed twenty-two in Kankara, Katsina. 
• March 11: Bandits killed seventeen in Zangon Kataf, Kaduna. 
• March 13: Herdsmen killed one in Yenegoa, Bayelsa. 
• March 13: Communal violence led to three deaths in Obi, Benue.
• March 13: Police officers killed one bandit in Giwa, Kaduna. 
• March 14: Bandits killed one and abducted forty in Paikoro Local Government Area (LGA) and killed three and abducted twenty in Munya LGA in Niger State. 
• March 14: Bandits killed ten in Zangon Kataf, Kaduna. 
• March 14: Herdsmen killed three in Patani, Delta. 
• March 15: Nigerian troops killed "several" (est. at ten) bandits in Shinkafi, Zamfara. 
• March 15: Bandits killed four soldiers and six others in Munya, Niger State. 
• March 15: Gunmen killed a traditional chief in Ilesha, Osun. 
• March 15: A Department of State Services (DSS) official killed one civilian in Idemili North, Anambra.  
• March 15: Military airstrikes killed seventy Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA) militants in Marte, Borno. 
• March 16: Security operatives killed five Shi'ites in Igabi, Kaduna. 
• March 16: Electoral violence led to three deaths in Ibadan South-East, Oyo. 
• March 16: Kidnappers abducted four in Biase, Cross River. 
• March 17: Military airstrikes killed twenty-eight bandits in Munya, Niger State.
